Este artigo procura analisar as possibilidades de fusão entre os municípios do Porto e de Vila Nova de Gaia, nomeadamente equacionando as seguintes questões: Permitirá a fusão entre ambos favorecer um maior desenvolvimento destes municípios, permitindo o crescimento de uma nova metrópole com dimensão ibérica e europeia? Deverá ser uma fusão total ou parcial dos seus territórios? De que forma se poderá implementar esta fusão? Neste contexto, o artigo analisa as vantagens e inconvenientes da fusão, tendo em consideração a evolução das estruturas urbanas e as novas lógicas territoriais. Em particular, destacam-se a multiplicação de escalas espaciais e a crescente relevância das redes nas dinâmicas territoriais. Por último, aponta-se o referendo local como sendo uma possibilidade para mobilizar a população e debater com profundidade esta questão, bem como constituir uma oportunidade para promover a cidadania urbana. This article looks for to analyze the fusing possibilities enters the cities of the Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, namely equating the following questions: It will allow the fusing enters both to favour a bigger development of these cities, allowing the growth of a new metropolis with Iberian and European dimension? It must be a total or partial fusing of its territories? In what ways will be able to implement this fusing? In this context, the article analyzes the advantages and inconveniences of the fusing, having in consideration the evolution of the urban structures and the new territorial logics. In particular, they are distinguished it multiplication of space scales and the increasing relevance of the nets in the territorial dynamic. Finally, the local referendum is pointed as being a possibility to mobilize the population and to discuss with depth this question, as well as constituting a chance to promote the citizenship urban.
