In the actual context of International Relations, the European Union and the Iberian American countries have been developed a process of approach which, by different reasons, has become a priority in their external relations. The development of european integration and the political and economical changes verified in Iberoamerica allowed new strategies of cooperation. This cooperation addresses its priorities not only to the commercial side, through different agreements that privilege exchanges between the two parts, as well to the humanitarian aid in various regions and the support given to the consolidation of democratic regimes and respect for human rights in those countries. No actual contexto de Relações Internacionais, a União Europeia e os países ibero-americanos têm desenvolvido um processo de aproximação que, por diferentes razões, se tornou uma das prioridades das suas relações externas. O aprofundamento da integração europeia e as transformações políticas e económicas verificadas nas últimas décadas na América Latina abriram caminho a novas estratégias de cooperação. Estas dirigem-se não só à vertente comercial, através de diferentes acordos que privilegiam as trocas entre as duas partes, como à ajuda humanitária em diversas regiões e ao apoio atribuído à consolidação dos regimes democráticos e respeito pelos direitos humanos nesses países.
